As the patient-care component of Ohio State’s cancer program, the James Cancer Hospital and Solove Research Institute is a transformational facility that integrates scientific research, education and innovative patient care. Research and education spaces are located on every inpatient floor, enhancing our bench-to-bedside approach to patient care and giving patients early access to new targeted treatments and tools.

The OSUCCC – James has more than 200 oncologists, each of whom specializes in just one type of cancer. That expert sub-specialization leads to more productive integration with cancer research and, ultimately, to better outcomes. We manage hundreds of active or pending cancer clinical trials, many of which are initiated by OSUCCC – James investigators. Our genetic- and molecular-based research helps us understand each patient’s unique cancer and develop and deliver the most effective targeted therapy that leads to better outcomes, fewer side effects and more hope.

In addition, the James Cancer Hospital and Solove Research Institute Emergency Department gives cancer patients with urgent or life-threatening issues access to highly skilled teams of oncology and emergency medicine experts. It is one of only a few cancer emergency departments in the nation and is fully integrated with the Abercrombie and Fitch Emergency Department at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center. The James ED contains 15 beds dedicated solely to cancer patients and a separate waiting room designed for cancer patients with compromised immunity. The James ED is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

The Ohio Arts Council was created in 1965 to foster and encourage the development of the arts and assist the preservation of Ohio’s cultural heritage. With funds from the Ohio Legislature and the National Endowment for the Arts, the OAC provides financial assistance to artists and arts organizations. The Council accomplishes this charge in two primary methods; first, through the various grant funding programs that the Council operates to provide support to artists and to make arts activities available to a broad segment of Ohio’s public; and secondly, by providing services that help to enhance the growth of the arts.
