Angela Perley has something magnetic, vulnerable, dangerous, and electric about her that has been causing a lot of buzz around the artist and her band The Howlin’ Moons lately. “Putting on a show is my way of being heard, I guess,” she says. “I am a storyteller at heart, always have been. Music is a way to express feelings I can’t get out any other way,” she adds.
Her work has been catching praise in the U.S. and the UK from tastemakers, including American Songwriter Magazine. Her explosive single, “Hurricane” was featured on ABC’s football coverage, and was the top requested song on a popular Columbus alternative station.
Angela’s band The Howlin’ Moons features longtime friends Billy Zehnal and Chris Connor on bass and lead guitar. The band’s live shows ooze with swaggering baselines and guitar riffs and their songs range from dreamy reverb-laden crooners to roots rock anthems. Since their incarnation in 2009, the Columbus, Ohio based band has released four EPs and one album on Vital Music USA. The group’s debut album, Hey Kid (Jan 2014), has been catching praise from tastemakers including American Songwriter Magazine, Magnet Magazine, PopDose, Americana UK, and Maverick Magazine. Hey Kid made several “Best of 2014” lists, charted #6 in the EuroAmericana charts in March of 2014, and it’s single “Athens” won first place in the Americana category of the 2014 International Songwriting Competition. The band’s anticipated second full length album, Homemade Vision, will be released Jan. 22nd, 2016.
